An evening of Scandinavian music at Port Arthur

Date Added: 05/11/2014

The Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority is proud to present Northern Lights, Southern Skies, a delightfully atmospheric program of Scandinavian works played by the ACO's young artists and their mentors.

The program includes works by Nielsen, Sibelius and Grieg.

The program also includes a work by ACO2’s guest director for this tour, Henning Kraggerud, who has put together this program of music from his native Scandinavia. Audiences can expect to be transported to the sound-worlds of Finland, Norway and Denmark, which will be complimented by the stunning acoustic of the Asylum Hall.

This will be ACO2’s second performance at Port Arthur; the ensemble thrilled the audience in the Asylum in October 2012. Earlier in the day ACO2 will also perform for students at the Tasman District School.

ACO2 delivers the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s regional touring and education programs, and connects the next generation of talented young Australian musicians with the stars of the ACO, creating a combined ensemble with a fresh, energetic performance style. It has performed across Australia to critical and popular acclaim.

This tour features a strong Tasmanian contingent. Brothers Peter (violin) and William (viola) Clark and violinist Thibaud Pavlovic-Hobba went to school in Hobart and are looking forward to performing for Tasmanian audiences.

Don’t miss this chance to hear these stars of the future. Seating for this concert is strictly limited, so please book early.
