Experience fine music at Port Arthur this Friday

08/10/2012 The Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority is proud to present a performance of fine classical music, including works by JS Bach, Handel and Dvorak, by the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s emerging artists ensemble ACO2. ACO2 connects the next generation of talented young Australian musicians with the stars of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, creating a combined ensemble with a fresh, energetic performance style. It has performed across Australia to critical and popular acclaim. “This trans-generational group of wandering minstrels certainly gave new life and energy to some age-old pieces of music in their robust performance. What became evident from the very first note struck was that these musicians have already emerged. The skill and finesse of the performances was awe inspiring and their presence was equally commanding.” Australian Stage Online ACO2 will perform in the intimate surrounds of the Asylum Hall of the Port Arthur Historic Site on Friday 12 October 2012, as part of their first ever Tasmanian tour. In this concert, ACO2 perform some of the best music for string orchestra from the Baroque, Romantic and contemporary eras. Bach’s sprightly Brandenburg Concerto No.3 is one of the most popular pieces in classical music. Handel’s Concerto Grosso is in the grand Baroque style. Dvorák’s Serenade, full of flowing melodies and wistful waltzes, is a delight. Meale’s Cantilena features a long, lyrical line for solo violin. Rising young British composer Tarik O’Regan has already received two Grammy nominations. Don’t miss this chance to hear musicians from Australia’s most dynamic and critically acclaimed orchestra performing with the stars of the future. Seating for this concert is strictly limited, so please book early.
