The talks are held every couple of months at the Port Arthur Historic Site, are free of charge and open to anyone who is interested in the topic. Rich and varied subjects and speakers make for fascinating listening and discussion.

Port Arthur Penitentiary Precinct Conservation Project
presented by Michael Pender
One of Tasmania's most recognisable landmarks, the Penitentiary at Port Arthur, is being conserved in a project costing more than $7 million. Expected to take around ten months, the project seeks to ensure the structural integrity of the Penitentiary for future generations
Michael Pender will outline the Penitentiary Precinct Conservation Project. The presentation will provide an overview of the multidisciplinary project planning, the unique considerations which drove the structural design solution and the conservation and interpretive works which have been incorporated within the project.
Michael is the Director of HPA Projects, based in Sydney. He has extensive experience in heritage projects throughout Australia and internationally.

Tasmanian Devils on the Forestier and Tasman Peninsulas

The Tasmanian Devil is listed as a threatened species due to the impact of a contagious cancer known as Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), despite this a small population of devils still persists on the Peninsula. The talk will outline the broad range of conservation efforts being undertaken by the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program and discuss population trends in devils on the Peninsula, the impact of DFTD on this population, and the steps being taken to secure a population of wild living, disease free devils on the Peninsula.
Stewart has been a biologist with the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program at DPIPWE for 7 years, working on the monitoring and management of both wild and captive devils. Since 2009 Stewart has been responsible for the on-ground implementation of devil management actions on the Peninsula. Stewart has a postgraduate diploma in Biodiversity Conservation and Management, and has previously worked for the World Wide Fund for Nature, The Tropical Savannas Co-operative Research Centre and Conservation Volunteers Australia.ALL WELCOME
